To say that the Baltimore Ravens are having a great season would be a complete understatement. Currently, they are on a ten-game winning streak and will most-likely not lose another game in the rest of the regular season. Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson is the front-runner for the NFL’s Most Valuable Player Award — leading the league in total passing touchdowns (33 total), quarterback rushing yards (1,103 – new NFL record), and quarterback rating (83.1 QBR).
The NFL just released information about the Pro Bowl that might have been surprising for Baltimore. They tied an NFL record for having the most players selected in the same year — with twelve players offered a coveted spot. The list of who was offered a spot are as follows:
QB-Lamar JacksonRB-Mark Ingram IIRG-Marshal YandaLT-Ronnie StanleyTE-Mark Andrews FB-Patrick RicardS-Earl Thomas III, CBs-Marlon Humphrey and Marcus PetersOLB-Matthew JudonK-Justin Tucker LS-(Long snapper) Morgan Cox.
The reason that this might have come as a surprise is because the Ravens have not had a quarterback selected to the Pro Bowl since Vinny Testaverde in 1996. According to research done by the Elias Sports Bureau, the only other team that has gone longer without having a quarterback selected to the game is the Miami Dolphins — with their latest QB selected being Dan Marino in 1995.
This is very impressive for one team. The Broncos Wire on USA Today reported in November that the Denver Broncos had 27 players on the Pro Bowl Ballot, however only Von Miller made it this year. This is unusual for Denver, but their 5-9 record seems to speak for itself, as opposed to the Ravens who are currently 12-2.
Everything seems to be falling in-line for Baltimore — but unfortunately or not, if they keep up their winning streak, no team will be able to stop them. In that scenario, all twelve nominees will have to miss the Pro Bowl because in that case, they will be at the 64th Super Bowl. If that is the case, 12 alternates will be selected to fill their positions. The question is, Who will be chosen at that point?
