Team USA has been in the news regularly and are still trying to figure out their loss in the 2019 FIBA World Cup. They finished seventh, which is the worst record that the U.S. team has ever had. But not all hope is lost.
In an interview with Rachel Nichols, Golden State Point Guard broke some incredible news. He was asked what his thoughts were on the United States coming seventh in the FIBA World Cup, he said this:
“We’re still the best, if we get the guys that are supposed to be there, in terms of, you know, representing us in the Olympic stage and the commitment’s been there, and I think it’ll be there next year.”
Basically, Steph said that it if other players that were “supposed to be there” were on the team, Team USA would have beaten everyone. This raises the question: What players is Steph referring to? Was he also talking about himself?
When Ms. Nichols asked Steph if he would be playing the United States olympic team in Japan this Summer, Curry said:
“That is the plan, for sure … You know, obviously knock on wood, you don’t want any injuries or things like that to interfere.”
What?!? Steph Curry verbally committed to joining the U.S. olympic team in 2020 — which is something that he has never done before. Steph has never played in the olympics before and this will be extremely exciting to watch! Finally, we get to witness Olympic Steph!
Perhaps the greatest part about this comment for Team USA is that it will encourage other NBA Superstars to join the team over the Summer. Steph is a leader and many people follow behind him. He is friends with multiple superstars of other franchises, as well. Still, nothing is quite official yet, but when this happens, I would expect to see a lot more stars join Olympic Steph on his pilgrimage and win a gold medal…
