Well, no rest for the weary. Ben Watson has been everywhere: From the New England Patriots from 2004-2009, to the Cleveland Browns (2010-2012), then to the New Orleans Saints (2013-2015, 2018) and the Baltimore Ravens (2016-2017) before joining the Patriots this season. After deciding to change teams for his last few years of his NFL career, veteran tight end Benjamin Watson has been released from the Patriots roster.
I, as Watson, am devastated by this decision. Here was an opportunity to bring back someone who started their career on the Patriots and wanted to end it with them — and then he just suddenly gets released? It doesn’t make a whole lot of sense. Ever since Rob Gronkowski left the Patriots, there has been a spot at the tight end position for someone with talent and experience to fill — just like Watson! In addition, Ben is an amazing leader on the field and I don’t see why anyone would want to let him go.
If the Patriots were worrying about age I don’t believe that they would have picked him up in the first place, or even kept their quarterback. I’m truly interested to see why they have removed him from their roster. There is no other tight end on the Pats that is nearly as skilled and talented as him. There must have been an ulterior motive for the Pats…
But the only question is… what was their motive?
