It appears that it was the plan all along to find a spot for the veteran tight end Benjamin Watson on the New England Patriots Roster.
Ever since Ben began practicing with the Patriots, they never activated him on their roster. He then was released last Monday.
Patriots head coach Bill Belichick said that there originally was no room on their roster for Watson. But now that their fullback Jakob Johnson was injured and put on IR, there has been an open space for the 38 year-old tight end.
Many people have been speculating about a possible return of Rob Gronkowski to give Tom Brady a reliable tight end, but recently took up a job being a football analyst. Instead, they’ve got Benjamin Watson who will make another significant offensive weapon for Tom Brady to use.
Watson and Brady have worked together before, while he was on the Patriots at the beginning of his career. One of Watson’s most iconic plays came after Champ Bailey picked off Brady. Wow what a great example of perseverance!
This was a smart decision on the Patriots’ part. Not only do they need a tight end, but they also need another leader on their offense. When Antonio Brown joined, he tore part of the team apart. Tom Brady is a great leader, but it will be nice for him to have another one in Watson. He might be able to mend the broken bonds on team. But many are wondering what role Ben will have in this offense.
Will Brady use Watson similarly to how he used Gronkowski?
