Celtics President of Basketball Operations, Danny Ainge, is reportedly stepping down from his position and Head Coach, Brad Stevens, will assume the role, according to Adrian Wojnarowksi.
“Ainge has been contemplating leaving the job for several months and had been talking about possible succession plans with ownership,” tweeted Wojnarowski.
The front office changes come after a disappointing 1st round 4-1 series loss to the Brooklyn Nets. This loss was likely the breaking point for the promising team’s management. The Celtics will begin a Brad Stevens-led search for a new head coach immediately, per Woj.
The Celtics finished 7th in the Eastern Conference, just scraping playoff birth with a 36-36 record. The team’s talent is still relatively young and will continue to be contenders for years to come, potentially more so with new coaching.
